National Competition Volunteers

Well, we had our last committee meeting and are officially on hiatus until October. Next year we will try to fix some of this year's glitches: chairs, lunch distribution and entertainment (think American Idol), and have a pre-meeting just for coaches 2-3 weeks before the competition. Pencil next year's date on your calendar, February 20, 2010 at Olympia High School. I've updated our little countdown clock so that you can count the days. Final confirmation of the date and location will occur this fall. Fortunately, if you want more math there are two more opportunities to participate in Mathcounts.

Volunteering at the national competition is as easy as clicking this
link. You'll need to "register" and work your way through various pages. I will warn you that you will see plenty of options that require payment, but it is possible to navigate through the system and not be charged. We hope to see some familiar faces at Nationals!

And the winner is...

Liberty Middle School is the most improved school this year. The most improved school will receive a $50 gift card, courtesy of ASCE's Younger Member Forum of the East Central Florida Branch. Congratulations to these Mathletes and Coaches for a job well done!

Who's, Who?

We are still gathering the final statistics, but this year's competition included 320 mathletes, 43 schools, 72 coaches and 51 volunteers. Whew! All of the students, parents and coaches that participated this year deserve a big pat on the back.

Since we had over 40 schools participate in our chapter competition, 5 schools will represent Central Florida at State Mathcounts.
